Synthesis Essay

Objective: Students will be able to write a synthesis essay by looking at the step by step advice in The Language of Composition.  We will go over these and rewrite them.

Also - today - make sure you post your notes on Chapters 2 and 3 of Everyday Use and all your precise writings (and rewrites).

Today we will read and discuss "The Allegory of the Cave".

Homework: Everyday Use chapter 2

Types of Sentences

Today we will discuss - "Why I went into the Woods" and then revisit types of sentences.

HW - Read chapter 1 of Everyday Use (outline it).

You need to write the following types of sentences:

Structure: Loose, periodic, parallel, split-order and interrupted order.
Types: Declarative, Imperative, Interrogative, and Exclamatory.
Also - Simple, compound, complex and compound-complex.
Also - a telegraphic, short, medium and long sentence.

Types of "Talking with the Text"

Today we are going to go over Annotation, Dialectical Journal, and Graphic Organizer. 

Also - start reviewing the following terms: alliteration, allusion, anaphora, antimetabole, antithesis, asyndeton, cumulative sentence, hortative sentence, imperative sentence, inversion, juxtaposition, metaphor, metonymy, oxymoron, parallelism, periodic sentence, personification, rhetorical questions, zeugma
